The Engineers Behind StruTools

Two engineers. A friendship built over coffee. A shared passion for engineering and code.

StruTools brings together two complementary perspectives: structural engineering and engineering automation. We are Sudhakar and Kanagarasu—friends and partners, learning from each other and building practical engineering tools together.

Sudhakar's Professional Journey

From Detailing to Automation.

  1. 2008–2011

    Phenix Construction Technologies · India

Detailing Engineer—main frames, secondary members and bracing; shop drawings and bills of materials.

  2. 2011–2012

    Tata BlueScope Steel · India

Detailing Engineer—fabrication and erection drawings; coordination with design engineers for technical approvals.

  3. 2012

Joined Mabani Steel · United Arab Emirates

A career that grew through detailing, team leadership and engineering automation, including Visual LISP and .NET tools, standardisation and technical training.

  4. 2013

    We Meet

Our story began in 2013—not with a business plan, but over coffee and engineering conversations. Sudhakar shared coding tricks and automation ideas; Kanagarasu shared structural design knowledge. Different strengths, shared freely, became the foundation of how we work together.

  6. 2025

    Left Mabani Steel

After thirteen years of detailing, leadership and engineering automation, I completed my Mabani chapter and prepared for the next one.

  7. New Zealand

    A New Chapter

My New Zealand journey includes further study at the University of Auckland, where I am completing a Master of Civil Engineering and continuing to turn practical ideas into useful systems.

Different strengths. One shared vision.

Engineering Automation

My background is in civil engineering, structural steel detailing and engineering automation. At StruTools, I bring that practical experience into software: understand the task, find the repetitive work and build something useful.

Structural Engineering

I bring structural engineering knowledge and a designer's perspective to our partnership. When Sudhakar and I met in 2013, he shared coding techniques and I shared structural design knowledge. That exchange of ideas became part of the way we work together today—combining engineering understanding with practical automation.

From Drawing Lines to Writing Code

Engineering drawings gave us a close view of the tasks people repeat every day. Software offered a practical way to improve how some of those tasks were done.

Our different backgrounds help us see the same problem from two sides: how the engineering works and how a repetitive workflow might be automated.

That exchange began in 2013 and captures what we want StruTools to represent: engineering knowledge and code working together.

Engineering Problems. Practical Solutions.

StruTools is where our engineering experience and interest in automation come together. Our aim is to build tools that are clear, practical and useful in everyday engineering work—not technology for its own sake, but software with a job to do.

Start with a Real Task

Build around problems engineers actually encounter.

Make Repetition Easier

Look for practical ways to simplify recurring work.

Keep Engineers in Control

Support engineering judgement rather than replace it.

Good Tools Start with Good Conversations.

Ours started over coffee. Have an engineering task that takes more time than it should? We would love to hear about it.
