How to Use Cb Value in Staad Tools
Pull Cb and Lp from a STAAD ANL TAPERED (AISC SECTIONS) design listing, then optionally check AISC equation F2-1 from quarter-point moments.
Cb Value replaces Staad Cb Value. The original program opened an ANL file, found each TAPERED (AISC SECTIONS) heading, and read the Cb sitting on the row after Cb Lp.
How extraction works
- Each line containing the exact heading TAPERED (AISC SECTIONS) updates the current member.
- A later line containing Cb Lp tells the reader to take the following row.
- After whitespace is collapsed, item index 4 on that row is the reported Cb. Lp is the next item when STAAD printed it.
- Multiple members stay in source order. Metrics show Cb minimum, average and maximum.
Optional AISC F2-1 check
When all four quarter-point moments are entered, the tool computes Cb from AISC F2-1 using the absolute maximum moment as Mmax. Signed moments such as −100, −50, 75, −25 produce the same Cb as the positive set. This is a checking calculation — it does not rewrite the ANL values in the table.
Workflow
- Run AISC steel design in STAAD so the ANL contains TAPERED (AISC SECTIONS) blocks.
- Upload or paste that listing and click Extract.
- Review Member / Cb / Lp and the min / avg / max summary.
- Export CSV if you are comparing Cb against a connection or flange-brace check.
- Optionally enter Mmax, Ma, Mb and Mc to compare F2-1 with the printed Cb.
Common mistakes
- The reader looks for the TAPERED (AISC SECTIONS) heading. A different design code printout will not fill the table.
- Cb Lp must appear as that pair of labels. A wrapped or edited listing can skip a member.
- F2-1 is independent of the ANL rows. Empty moment fields leave the computed cell as a dash.
- Do not treat extracted Cb as a substitute for unbraced-length review. Lp still has to match the bracing layout.
