Calculation basis
Theoretical coverage = volume solids (%) × 10 ÷ DFT (µm). Practical coverage = theoretical coverage × (1 − wastage/100). Paint required = coated surface area ÷ practical coverage.
Calculated quantities should be reviewed against the paint manufacturer’s product data sheet, specified application method, available pack sizes, surface condition and site allowances before procurement.
